Home Run Number Ten

Sunday 24th August 2003
Road game (Prince George's Stadium) against the Bowie Baysox

Hit off the Baysox right-handed pitcher, B Agamennone, in the eighth innings

The full box score is at the bottom of this page

Excerpts from Game Reports
(1)
Brett Roneberg, the Curve's hottest hitter of late, ripped a two-run homer in the eighth - his 10th longball of the season - to cut Bowie's advantage to 12-4

(2) Brett Roneberg hit a two-run homer for Altoona, which has dropped five of its last seven games away from home.

Prince George's Stadium

A look at Brett's plate appearances
Playing first base - batting at #4
Had 4 plate appearances - 3 at bats - and a walk
#01 - RHP - led off the innings - "and that ball was sizzled to second base" - out "4-to-3" - and the commentator said "the easiest part of that play would have been the throw because that ball was hit that hard"
#02
- RHP - bases empty/two down - ball-91mph fastball/ball/called/ball/foul, and then a pop fly into shallow leftfield and was out on a diving catch by the Baysox leftfielder - out "F7"
#03 - LHP - runner at second base/two down - foul/ball/ball/called/foul/ball/ball - walk - and was left stranded at the end of the innings
#04 - RHP - runner at first base/none down - ball/ball, and then the commentator said "this one is way back, way back and gone - a two run shot to Brett Roneberg and his tenth of the year!!!" - (the call sounded fantastic!!!) -
HOME RUN and 2 x RBI's!!!

Heard during the Game
The Curve radio broadcast was not working for Brett's first two at bats, and I listened via the Baysox web site and heard these comments from the broadcasters
(1)
"Roneberg has been extremely hot recently, having hits in twelve of his last thirteen games
with most of them being multi hit games"

(2)
"He has been a real important asset for the Curve over the last few weeks"
(3)
"You have got to be very careful pitching around him, and if you make a mistake he can really hurt you"

Comments from Rob Egan (left) heard during the game
(1)
"As Brett came in for his third at bat against the left-handed relief pitcher, Rob said that Brett handles leftties well, with a current average of 0.313 against them"
(2)
After Brett his his home run in his fourth plate appearance, Rob said that
"Brett has been on an absolute tear at the plate"

and then mentioned the following statistics
He is currently on a 5 game hitting streak
and has hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games,
with 10 of those games being multi-hit games.
His on-base streak is at 14 games, having picked a walk in the game in which he did not get a hit.
He is currently batting 25 from his last 54 at bats for a 0.463 average.

He also announced Brett as the
"Cracker Barrel Curve Player-of-the-Game"
for the second day running!!!

Email from Geoff
Hey,
and when you are looking at the picture of the field to work out where yesterday's #9 went over,
and how high the fence is,
YOU CAN ALSO TELL ME WHERE TODAY'S #10 WENT OVER!!!
Congratulations, #17!!!
Reply from Brett
OK, they both went over the the first sign to the right of the "Outback" sign,
and they both went over both fences!!
I have no idea on how high the fences are.

Email from Ashley Wertz, a Curve fan who was listening in Altoona to the game which was played in Bowie
Brett just got the home run.
I am so freaking out.
If everyone hit as well as Brett has been we would have clinched a while ago.
Well I'm sure you are as happy as I am.
......and a reply to Ashley

And heard Rob Egan's call of Brett's 10th of the season!!!
Fantastic!!!
It will be nice to clinch the Platoff spot at the Curve's home field!!! - in front of their own fans!!!
Will be a great moment!!!

Email from Lindsey Billotte, another Curve fan who was listening
Geoff.
I am listening to the Curve game,
as I bet you are too.
Rob Egan had just mentioned that he has been 0-2 for the day with a walk...
next thing you know he hits one out of there!
Brett's reached base in his last 14 games!
Brett's been hitting extremely well.
Keep up the good work Brett!

Hello Lindsey.
Yep, I sure was tuned in!!!
And heard Rob Egan's call!!!
Sounded great!!!
In a way it's good that they didn't clinch the Playoff spot in Bowie.
It will be great to do it at BCB in front of all their own fans!!!
Should be a great moment!!!
I guess you will be going, so enjoy every game!!!
Have a nice evening.
Bye.
Geoff.
