Willow Flour Sifters

Two Australian Patterns

A note from Geoff on Thursday 19th January 2006
"Well, this is interesting!!! - two very similar items!!!

Sharon has been looking around for 'unusual items' to display
and to give our kitchen 'a country look'
We have bought a few things, as can be seen from these pages

She saw the first sifter and said "I really like that"
Tricking her, I said I didn't - and she forgot about it
.......but I made a bid and won!!!

Then the same day I saw the second auction!!!

What to do??? - oh hell, make a bid!!!

This sifter looks to be in better condition than the first one
......and the price I paid seems to reflect this!!!

So now we have two!!!
......and they should look great displayed together"

- The Ebay Auctions

NUMBER ONE ---Willow Vintage Flour Sifter
The well known Australian Sport and Racing Artist, Brian Baigent,
painted the original Australian rural scene which has been transferred
to decorate this vintage Willow tin-ware flour sifter
A typical Australian bush scene with tall eucalyptus gum trees and scenic hills
forming a backdrop to the bushman and his horse near a campfire
The sifter is in very good condition and still perfectly useable
There is only very minor rusting around the wire mesh edge and along the seam join
and inside at the base of the handle, and this could probably be scoured clean
There are a few minor scratches to the paintwork
- however, they do not detract at all from the sifter's display appeal
Also there is some minor denting along the top rolled edge
A very charming decorator piece for the country kitchen

Item location - Melbourne Suburbia, Victoria Australia
This auction ended on Thursday 19th January 2006
The starting price was set at $8.50 and there was only one bid during the auction
And it was ours!!! - so we paid
$8.50 plus postage and insurance

NUMBER TWO ---Willow Tin-Ware Country Style Sifter
This sifter has pictures of a country scene around it
Barns and houses in a country town
This is from a painting by Maynard Waters, an Australian artist
It is the older style where you are turning a spindle
with four wire pieces to get your flour through the sieve
Excellent condition

Item location - Narangba, Queensland Australia
This auction ended on Thursday 19th January 2006
The starting price was set at $0.99 and there were seven bids during the auction
