Ball - high and outside
"Roneberg drills that ball into leftfield ... the fielder makes the catch and the runner has tagged and is coming home ... the throw comes in to third base ... and did they get him??? ... yes, they did!!! ... and has the runner scored??? ... no, it's a double play by the SeaWolves to get out of the innings!!! ... Curve Manager Tim Leiper is attacking the umpire and I think he has a legitimate beef in this case"
Fly out to leftfield - F7
NOTE - it looks like Brett should have got a sacrifice fly with a run batted in here, but the runner from second base was doubled off when trying to reach third base ... not sure if it was poor judgement by the baserunner, or a 'blunder' by the coach, or a bad call by the umpire, etc, etc ... it all results in nothing for Brett!!!

Josh Shortslef worked 6-2/3 strong innings and Steven Pearce cracked a three-run, first-inning home run to lead the Curve to a 4-1 win over the Erie SeaWolves in game one of a doubleheader Wednesday evening at Jerry Uht Park

The Curve, however, were unable to complete the twinbill sweep as Erie plated two seventh-inning runs to send the nightcap into extra innings before winning it in the eighth, 4-3

Altoona (34-33), which swept the Reading Phillies in its previous doubleheader on June 1 at Blair County Ballpark, entered the seventh and final inning of game two with a 3-1 lead, but the SeaWolves scored a pair of runs off Curve reliever Chris Hernandez, including a game-tying RBI single by Pedro Cotto which forced extra innings

In the bottom of the eighth, Andres Torres led off with a walk against Jason Roach and eventually came home with the game's winning run when Roach was charged with a wild pitch that got past catcher Dave Parrish

The Curve built their 3-1 lead in game two thanks to five strong innings from right-hander Todd Redmond and a three-run homer off the bat of Adam Boeve, who was celebrating his 27th birthday

Redmond, who was called up from Class-A Lynchburg to make his Double-A debut against the SeaWolves, shook off a first-inning home run by Torres to finish with only one run allowed and four hits

Matt Rusch (3-1) earned the game two win for the SeaWolves, while Roach (4-2) was tagged with the loss

In the earlier contest, Shortslef (2-6) came within one out of his first complete game victory in a Curve uniform, going 6-2/3 innings and allowing only one run and five hits
The left-hander, who started the season with an 0-6 record, had his second straight winning decision preserved by closer Matt Peterson, who came on to record the final out of the game and notch his 14th save to match the Eastern League lead

The Curve led the entire game thanks to Pearce's three-run homer in the first inning off Erie starter Andrew Kown (2-4)
The longball was Pearce's ninth in a Curve uniform and his 20th overall this season, including his 11 homers with Class-A Lynchburg to open the season

Jason Bowers added three hits in the game one victory and finished with four overall in the doubleheader to lead all Altoona hitters

The Curve and SeaWolves will return to the diamond on Thursday at 12.05pm for a second straight doubleheader at Jerry Uht Park
Kip Bouknight (7-2, 3.27) will draw the starting assignment for the Curve in game one against Detroit Tigers' left-hander Nate Robertson, who will be making a major league rehab start for the SeaWolves
The nightcap will feature eight-game winner Dallas Trahern (8-3, 3.46) of Erie against an undecided Curve pitcher
