Hello ... my name is Sharon Roneberg and, as you can see in our signature below, we live near Cairns in North Queensland

I am writing concerning the above item, which is being held by your Library

I have been doing Family History research ... and I was aware that Joseph Coudrey had travelled from England to Australia during 1879 ... he is my Great-GrandFather
...... but imagine my surprise when I saw that he had kept a Manuscript / Diary during the trip !!
...... unbelievable and fantastic !!

I want to buy a copy ... but I saw that it is not available
I want it posted up so I can read it ... but I know that is only a 'dream' !!

I would at least like to see the book ... but Cairns is a long, long way from Adelaide
So I am writing to ask a huge and special favour of you and your staff

Would someone there, who owns a digital camera, be able to take a few shots of this Diary ??
Some of the cover to show what it looks like, and maybe one or two of any sort of Introduction or Notes that Joseph may have made on the first couple of pages
Anything like that ... I would be really appreciative
And of course, if there is any costs, I would be happy to pay them

It was terrific to discover this book exists ... and it would also be terrific to see these shots
One day I might get to read it

In the meantime, I'll wait for your reply ... and, hopefully, a few photos !!

Thanks for your time ... Regards ... Sharon

The State Library of South Australia

This Diary is not available at present
and the Library is going to contact me when it is

and it will be terrific to read Joseph's thoughts as he travelled to Australia !!

The Diary Is Now Available

and a complete copy is below

NOTE #01 - further below are the links to the content of this Diary
Due to it's fragile condition, the Library used an overhead laser scanner to make the copies
I then used the "best copy" setting on my scanner to make these pages below
If you have difficulty reading some of the words, let me know and I'll look them up on the originals

NOTE #02 - also below is a link to Sharon's thoughts and comments as she read about her Great-Grandfather
I would suggest that you read the Diary first and then click on this link
