2002 Bowman Chrome ... #299

Number of cards = 26

This 405 card set was issued in July, 2002
It was issued in 4 card packs with an SRP of $4 which were packed 18 packs to a box and 12 boxes to a case
The first 110 card of the set featured veteran players
The next grouping of cards (111-383) featured a mix of rookies and prospect cards
The then final grouping (384-405) featured signed rookie cards
Both So Taguchi and Kazuhisa Ishii were also printed without autographs on their cards
An exchange was inserted into packs for Jake Mauer's autographed RC
The exchange card was intended to be card number 388 in the checklist but the actual Mauer autograph mailed out to collectors was card number 324
Thus, this set actually has two cards numbered 324 (the Jake Mauer autograph and a basic-issue Ben Broussard card) and no number 388

2002 Bowman Heritage ... #97

Number of cards = 59

This 440 card standard-size, designed in the style of the 1954 Bowman set, was released in August, 2002
The 10 card packs had an SRP of $3 per pack and were issued 24 packs to a box and 16 boxes to a case
110 cards were issued in shorter supply than the rest of the set and we have notated that information next to the player's name in our checklist
There were two versions of card number 66 which paid tribute to the Ted Williams/Jim Piersall numbering issue in the original 1954 Bowman set

2002 Topps Prospects ... #677

Number of cards = 88

The complete set of 2002 Topps consists of 718 cards issued in two separate series
The first series of 364 cards was distributed in November, 2001 and the second series of 354 cards followed up in April, 2002
Please note, the first series is numbered 1-365, but card number 7 does not exist (the number was "retired" in 1996 by Topps to honor Mickey Mantle)
Similar to the 1999 McGwire and Sosa home run cards, Barry Bonds is featured on card number 365 with 73 different versions to commemorate each of the homers he smashed during the 2001 season
The first series set is considered complete with any "one" of these variations
The cards were issued either in 10 card hobby/retail packs with an SRP of $1.29 or 37 card HTA packs with an SRP of $5 per pack
The hobby packs were issued 36 to a box and 12 boxes to a case
The HTA packs were issued 12 to a box and eight to a case
Cards numbered 277-305 feature managers; cards numbered 307-325/671-690 feature leading prospects; cards numbered 326-331/691-695 feature 2001 draft picks; cards numbered 332-336 feature leading highlights of the 2001 season; cards numbered 337-348 feature league leaders; cards numbered 349-356 feature the eight teams which made the playoffs; cards numbered 357-364 feature major league baseball's stirring tribute to the events of September 11, 2001; cards 641-670 feature Team Cards; 696-713 are Gold Glove subsets, 714-715 are Cy Young subsets, 716-717 are MVP subsets and 718-719 are Rookie of the Year subsets
Notable Rookie Cards include Joe Mauer and Kazhuisa Ishii
Also, Topps repurchased more than 21,000 actual vintage Topps cards and randomly seeded them into packs as follows - Ser.1 Home Team Advantage 1:169, ser.1 retail 1:tbd, ser.2 hobby 1:431, ser.2 Home Team Advantage 1:113 and ser.2 retail 1:331
Brown-boxed hobby factory sets were issued in May, 2002 containing the full 718 card basic set and five Topps Archives Reprints inserts
Green-boxed retail factory sets were issued in late August, 2002 containing the full 718 card basic set and cards 1-5 of a 10-card Draft Picks set
There has been a recently discovered variation of card 160 in which there is a correct back picture for Albert Pujols (#160)
While Topps has confirmed this variation, it is unknown what percent of the print run has the correct back photo
(should the above two lines state ... "incorrect back photo" ... ???)

Misc Florida Marlins Team Cards = 18

#1 - This 790 card factory set was issued in October, 2002
It had a SRP of $150 and parallels the regular Topps set except for the reprinting of all 73 Barry Bonds 365 cards
These cards can be differentiated from the regular cards by their "glossy" finish on the front
Though the cards are not serial-numbered, Topps announced that 1,950 sets were issued
#2 - This team set comes from a factory set of Topps 2002 cards
The complete set was originally sold for $150 - triple the regular Topps Set price
It features a slightly better card stock, high glossy finish, and a small print of 'Limited Edition' on the card
Otherwise, it is exactly the same set as the regular issue

2002 Topps Prospects - Chrome ... #677

Number of cards = 27

This product's first series, consisting of cards 1-6 and 8-331, was released in late January, 2002
The second series, consisting of cards 366-695, was released in early June, 2002
Both first and second series packs contained four cards and carried an SRP of $3
Sealed boxes contained 24 packs
The set parallels the 2002 Topps set except, of course, for the upgraded chrome card stock
Unlike the 1999 Topps Chrome product, featuring 70 variations of Mark McGwire's Home Run record card, the 2002 first series product did not include different variations of the Barry Bonds Home Run record cards
Please note, that just as in the basic 2002 Topps set, there is no card number 7 as it is still retired in honor of Mickey Mantle
In addition, the foil-coated subset cards from the basic Topps set (cards 332-365 and 696-719) were NOT replicated for this Chrome set, thus it's considered complete at 660 cards
Notable Rookie Cards include Kazuhisa Ishii and Joe Mauer
