NOTE - there are 13 photos on this page and it may take a few extra seconds to completely download
if you have a broadband internet connection, they will not take too long to display ... just be a little patient !!

and 6 more photos were added following another Working Bee on Saturday 29th June 2013

Diamond One

On Saturday 18th June 2011, coir mats were put into the mound to stop holes being dug by the pitchers
and to try and cut down on general post-game maintenance ... these proved to be very successful

Naturally, over time some of the mats wore out and these were removed on Friday 11th May 2012

Full details on the work in June 2011 and May 2012 can be seen by clicking HERE and scrolling down the page

On Saturday 28th July 2012 they had to be replaced again and click HERE and scroll down to see the photos

Because of this required ongoing replacement, it was decided to try something different

Astro Turf

and a sheet of this was laid across the front of the mound as shown in the shots below

.

Leon starts to dig out the area so the astro turf can be around 50mm below the surface

Working Bee = People Standing around Talking and Leaning on Shovels !! ... c'mon, Peter and Leon ...

... and it's worse now because Geoff goes out to gossip as well !!

.

Eventually the area is marked out ...

... but it still needs to be a deeper so the astro turf doesn't show on the surface or 'slip' as the pitcher's front foot comes down

Saturday 9th February 2013

Leon finished laying the mat in the week following the Working Bee and I wasn't able to take any photos

There was a "Social Baseball Game" last night and the two shots below were taken before any maintenance was undertaken
Looks great !! ... and there is definately no hole from the pitcher's 'stride / landing' foot

In this photo, some of the crusher dust has been brushed away to show the astro turf

Working Bee ... Saturday 29th June 2013

Diamond One

In both this photo ...

... and this one, you can see that the astro turf mat was starting to lift along the edges

The mat was removed and replaced using more pegs in the problem areas
