For years when I have gone to vote and they mark off my name,
I saw your name right underneath mine
Today it wasn't there
That made me so sad ... I miss you very, very much, sweetheart

Today, on the white form (senate) I wrote:-
"this is an invalid protest vote
justice for my daughter - killed by a drunk driver"
On the green form (house of representatives) I said:-
"Tanya, these people aren’t going to help either"
and put a line diagonally across the page

I hope you don’t mind, Tanya
I know you took voting seriously and we had a few chats
around election times on how to choose who to vote for
and how difficult it was
We both wanted our votes to count and mean something

This time around I can’t get past the fact that the laws
and justice system in this country are a crock of shit
Do the crime and you'll do the time
It should be as simple as that

Tanya - you will have . Justice . or . Vengeance

The New South Wales Deputy Coroner has been highly critical
of a loophole in the state's road laws that will see a 17-year-old
L-plater who accidentally reversed over and killed two teenagers
escape penalty ... Coroner Sharon Freund has handed down her
findings into the 2010 Australia Day accident near Orange, in the
state's central west, which killed 19-year-olds Eliza Wannan and
Will Dalton-Brown ... she found 17-year-old Rhys Colefax had
been under the influence of alcohol and was behind the wheel as
an unattended L-plater driver when he accidentally reversed
over the teenagers, who were sleeping in a swag ... the Director
of Public Prosecutions has already declined to prosecute
Mr Colefax under the Crimes Act for dangerous driving
occasioning death ... Ms Freund found that in order for
Mr Colefax to be charged with multiple driving offences,
including negligent driving causing death, the incident needed to
have occurred on a road or road-related area ... she found because
it happened on a paddock or rural property, he could not face
prosecution ... Ms Freund said this was an anomaly in the law,
meaning she could not make any formal recommendations over
the incident ... in her findings this morning, Ms Freund concluded
with observations that road laws in Queensland and Victoria did
not contain similar loopholes ... sections of the Victorian Road
Safety Act make it an offence to drink drive irrespective of
whether the incident takes place on a road or paddock ... in
Queensland, the provision "on roads or elsewhere" meant
Mr Colefax would have been liable for an offence on the Molong
property ... the magistrate described the deaths as a "tragic
accident" ... she acknowledged coincidental circumstances in
the police investigation - that Mr Colefax's father was once
stationed at the local command and the breath-test machine used
on the 17-year-old was later found to be faulty ... but in her
findings Ms Freund said while this added to the torment of the
families, the investigation was thorough and adequate ... she
expressed sympathy to the victims' families but stated "the
legislation is what it is" ... a spokeswoman for NSW Roads
Minister Duncan Gay says he is seeking legal advice on the matter
